News) today announced that leading East Coast systems integrator Razor Technology is leveraging Brocade Data Migration Manager (DMM) to provide dramatically faster, more affordable data migration services to customers. Using the Brocade DMM solution, the West Conshohocken, Pennsylvania-based company offers non-disruptive data transfer services and tighter Service Level Agreements (SLAs), while requiring less staff, equipment, and time than it did using its previous complex, multivendor migration solution.

Improving Migration Performance While Enhancing the Bottom Line

Until recently, Razor used hardware and software solutions from multiple vendors to transfer data to and from servers, most often at customer sites or at its headquarters. However, these products required expensive licenses and multiple dedicated hardware platforms. Migrations required lengthy planning and setup, and significant manpower and time to complete. "A typical transfer would take a team of technicians to write the migration script and remain on the customer's site during the entire process, adding to the cost," Agrahara said. "If an error or failure occurred, we'd have to start it over from scratch. In addition, these solutions supported dedicated operating systems and storage platforms, limiting our hardware choices for migrations."
In contrast, Brocade DMM is an easy-to-use software solution that is designed for simple setup. "Brocade DMM is a very simple platform compared to the products we used in the past," Agrahara said. "It takes less than 30 minutes to install and you don't need to babysit it during the migration process. The product performs most of the operations on its own." Brocade DMM also supports both online and offline migrations, enabling the integrator to meet the specific requirements of various application environments and flexibly align SLAs to satisfy virtually any customer need.
Most importantly, using Brocade DMM, Razor can now reliably migrate one terabyte of customer data in two to four hours compared to approximately eight hours using other tools -- providing the integrator with a major boost in customer service, according to Agrahara. "We also benefit from the fact that Brocade DMM can be monitored remotely, making it possible to manage multiple migrations simultaneously offsite." This makes it possible to establish SLAs with stricter limitations on downtime duration and higher metrics for system performance during online migrations.
